Why this matters now

The way Americans say goodbye is changing fast.

  • Cremation has overtaken burial. The U.S. cremation rate is projected at 63.4% in 2025 and expected to reach 82.3% by 2045. NFDA 2025 Cremation & Burial Report
  • Services are moving out of the funeral home. 58.3% of Americans have attended a service at a non-traditional location — a park, brewery, home, garden. NFDA 2025 Consumer Awareness Study
  • Celebrations of life are replacing traditional funerals. Industry analysts put it bluntly: "The focus has shifted from the body of the deceased to the story of their life." South Florida Reporter, 2026

Casket viewings are giving way to slideshows. Hymns are giving way to favorite songs. Programs are giving way to story-sharing. Families want the person remembered, not just buried.

Zremi is built for this shift. Gather the stories now — while there's still time — so when the celebration comes, you have something real to celebrate with.

Built while the person is still here, with the people who love them, in the homes and communities where life actually happens.

The third death

There's an old idea that we die three times.

The first death is when the body stops. The second is when the body is laid to rest. The third comes much later — sometime in the future, when your name is spoken aloud for the last time.

"There are three deaths. The first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time." — David Eagleman, Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives

A hundred years from now, a great-grandchild might come looking. They'll want to know who you were. Not the painted version. The real one.

Zremi is built for the people who come looking.

For everyone and their dog

The grief industry has spent a hundred years pretending everyone had a Hallmark family. Most of us didn't.

Zremi is built for the families with complicated stories. The estranged son who didn't speak to his father for nine years and still wants the story told. The mother who left. The grandfather who drank. The brother nobody's talked to since 2003. The dog who was a better friend than most people.

You don't have to airbrush anyone. You don't have to make it pretty. You don't have to finish the album.

If they mattered to you — even in the ways that hurt — they get a place here.

That's what "for everyone and their dog" means.

Bring Zremi to your community

For active adult, independent living, retirement, and life-plan communities.

Your residents have time, sharp memories, decades of stories, and families who'd give anything to capture them. Your lifestyle team has the calendar to make it happen.

Zremi turns “tell your story” into a real program — sessions on the activity calendar, residents working at their own pace, families adding photos and voices from afar. The album lives quietly in the background, branded with your community's name.

  • Co-branded family experience (your logo, your colors, your subdomain)
  • Designed for residents who are living, not just being remembered
  • Per-resident album, ready when the family is
  • Setup is one conversation; ongoing work stays with us
  • Fits the realities of independent living — long timelines, distant family, gradual contribution

Why I built Zremi

In 2005, my grandmother passed. Before her funeral I kept saying: "I don't want her lifeless body to be my last memory of her."

I've skipped a lot of funerals since, for the same reason.

Years later, at a friend's service, I watched every person file past the casket and take that image home with them forever. That was the moment it crystallized. There has to be a better way to remember someone.

But I want to tell you the truth about why Zremi is what it is.

My dad died in 2014. I didn't speak to him for the last nine years of his life.

When he died, there was no album to build. Just a headstone and a lot of things I never got to say.

If Zremi only worked for Hallmark families — for the perfect grandmothers and the storybook dads — it wouldn't have been built for mine. And it wouldn't have been built for the 60% of families who look more like mine than like a Hallmark commercial.

So I built it differently.

Zremi is a place where stories, photos, and voices get gathered while a person is still here. The last memory isn't a casket. It's a recording of them laughing. A picture from a Tuesday. A story their grandkid wrote down.

It works for people still living to tell their own story. For parents already gone. For complicated relationships. For dogs who were family. For people you loved and lost and never figured out.

Free for every family. Premium upgrades if you want them. Never required.

A life, gathered carefully, kept for the people who come looking later.
